Sulmona,
Native land of Ovidio,
poet of the love, who right here was born in
the 43 B.C. and land of Confetti
(sugar -coated
almonds)
Easter,
The representation of Sunday Easter (“The
Madonna running in Square”) takes place
around Midday in the scenario of Piazza
Garibaldi, full of people laughing and
applauding from the audience within and
around the square and we also have the
moving embrace of the four runners who are
elected year after year. From the good
performance, the right falling of the black
cloth and from the pigeon flying, the
citizens of Sulmona derive wishes for the
new season and the next future of the city.
It is the most moving moment of the entire
Easter period and the citizens live it
between hope and tension.
The Chivalry Joust
Each knight represent
one of the old Borghi or Sestieri,
which divided the medieval Sulmona
and which today are newly a point of
reference for the citizens of the old
town centre.
A 400 walks-ons historic row, composed
of flag-wavers, drummers, "chiarine"-players
( a medieval wind instruments), ladies
and armigers, all in a medieval style,
presents the knights and the city
insigna. |
